A garden celebration in full bloom
How to plan wedding flowers that feel abundant, seasonal and personal — without letting the budget run away.
Start with the season
Flowers in season are fresher, last longer and cost less. In Canada, late spring brings peonies and lilac; summer brings garden roses, dahlias and sweet peas; autumn favours dahlias, chrysanthemums and textured foliage. Tell your florist your date first and your favourite flowers second.
Decide where flowers matter most
Guests remember the ceremony backdrop, the head table and your bouquet. Put most of the budget there and use greenery, candles and bud vases elsewhere. Ceremony arrangements can often move to the reception, so ask your florist and venue about a quick changeover.
Bring the garden indoors
Loose, gathered arrangements with trailing foliage feel like a garden even in a ballroom. Mix heights on the tables, and choose a palette of two or three main colours plus greens so everything looks intentional.
Questions to ask your florist
What is in season on our date? Which arrangements can be reused? What is included for delivery, setup and pickup? Is there a minimum order? Share photos you love and your budget range so they can suggest honest options.
