The art of a memorable table
Tables are where your guests spend most of the evening. A few thoughtful choices make them feel special.
Choose the shape first
Long tables feel communal and suit rustic or estate venues. Round tables make conversation easier and fit most ballrooms. Ask your venue for the floor plan and capacity of each layout before deciding.
Layer the setting
Start with linen, add chargers or a patterned plate, then napkins, cutlery and glassware. One standout element — coloured glassware, a printed menu or a hand-lettered place card — is enough to give the table personality.
Light it softly
Candlelight flatters everyone and photographs beautifully. Mix pillar candles, tapers and votives, and confirm your venue’s rules on open flames; many require enclosed candles.
Keep it practical
Leave room for plates and elbows, keep centrepieces below eye level or well above it, and make sure guests can see each other. Test one full place setting with your caterer or rental company before the day.
